Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016, the New 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta is likely to launch in India by the end of this year.

Toyota Innova Crysta’s official bookings will be opened in March 2016 across the country. Buyers will be able to book the vehicle at a token amount of Rs. 50,000. Though, the deliveries will be commenced from May, 2016. The Toyota Innova Crysta is the new-generation model of the MPV that will face competition from the cars like Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and Renault Lodgy.

The MPV is already on sale in the Indonesian market, priced between IDR 282 million (Rs.13.59 lakh) – IDR 423.8 million (Rs. 20.43 lakh). The Indonesian model of the new Toyota Innova is being offered in three trim levels – G, V and Q – and two engine options – a 2.4-litre GD diesel and a 2.0-litre VVT-i petrol. The vehicle’s new model comes with an all-new design and engine lineup. For the Indian market, the 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta will be available with a new 2.4-litre GD diesel engine, paired to a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Though, Toyota India might also bring in the more powerful 2.8-litre diesel-engined model to India since it showcased the same at the Delhi Auto Expo.

2016 Toyota Innova Crysta Launch Date

The new Toyota Innova will be launched in India in May 2016, while bookings will be opened in the next month. Just so you know, the new Innova Crysta made its India debut at the recently-concluded Delhi Auto Expo.

2016 Toyota Innova Crysta Price in India

The India-bound Toyota Innova 2016 model is expected to be priced within the range of Rs. 13 lakh (for the base variant) to Rs. 18 lakh (for the top-spec model).

The new Toyota Innova model is a lot safer and stronger than the existing one, as it scored 5-star safety rating in ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries), thanks to its advanced safety features such as ESC (electronic stability control), dual front airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system), EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), driver knee and curtain airbags, HAC (hill-assist control) and VSC (vehicle stability control). While the ESC-equipped model achieved 5-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) by scoring14.10 points out of 16, the other variants scored 4-star safety rating. With a total score of 76%, the MPV’s new model is positioned in 4-star category for Child Occupant Protection (COP).

The new Toyota Innova 2016 is built on an all-new IMV (International Multi-purpose Vehicle) platform, and is claimed to be lighter, safer and more robust than the outgoing model. Referred as the FIRM (Frame with Integrated Rigidity Mechanism), this new platform helps improve front and side impact structure of the vehicle. It also enhances its handling and ride quality. It’s the same platform that underpins the Hilux pickup truck and the New Fortuner SUV. Unlike the existing model, the new Innova looks more evolved and appealing.

The 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta shares several design elements with the New Toyota Fortuner, Camry, Highlander crossover and Altis. The front fascia of the car looks stunning with new dual-slats chromed grille, bumper with wider air-dam, integrated LED daytime running lamps, new fog lamps and swept-back head-lamps. The higher variants will be equipped with the LED projector headlamps. The side profile is accentuated by narrower glass, new prominent wheel arches, and 17-inch alloy wheels shod with 215/55 R17 tubeless front and rear tyres.

The Toyota Innova Crysta borrows several design bits from the New Toyota Fortuner, Camry, Highlander crossover and Altis.

The rear profile, too, has been revised with a new bumper, chrome highlighted license plate enclosure, all-new tail lamps and multi-layered bootlid. The all new Toyota Innova Crysta, with slightly longer overhangs, offers a more spacious cabin than the current model. The Innova Crysta measures 4,735mm in length, 1,830mm in width and 1,795mm in height, thus making it 150m longer, 70mm wider and 35mm taller than the current model. Though, the wheelbase remains unchanged i.e. 2,750mm. Similar to the Indonesia-spec model, the India-bound 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta will be available with a choice of 6 exterior colours – Alumina Jade, Attitude Black, Avant Grade Bronze, Dark Gray Mica Metallic, Silver Metallic and Super White.

The new Toyota Innova Crysta’s is more feature-rich and upmarket than the outgoing model. The car gets dual-tone interior with silver accent along with several comfort and connectivity features such as a 7-inch entertainment system with voice commands and Bluetooth connectivity, rank-and-reach adjustable steering, automatic climate control and ambient LED lighting. The higher trims, additionally, get smart entry with push button start and wood-finishing on panels.

The new Toyota Innova 2016 will come with both 7-seats (captain seats for middle row) and 8-seats configuration options.

The 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta comes with a plethora of advanced safety & security features such as door ajar warning, anti-theft system, rear parking sensors, dual front airbags and driver knee airbag, ABS (anti-lock braking system) and EBD (electronic brake-force distribution). The top-ragging model will offer curtain airbags protection along with the vehicle stability control (VSC) and hill-start assist control (HAC).

2016 Toyota Innova Crysta Engine & Transmission

The India-bound 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta will derive its power from an all-new 2.4-litre GD diesel engine with VNT Inter-cooler, which is capable to produce power worth 146.9bhp at 3,400rpm against 360Nm (AT) and 342.2Nm (MT) of torque. This powertrain will come with two gearbox options – a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Similar to the current model, the new Innova model will be available with both 2WD and 4WD drivetrain system. Toyota claims that the new GD powertrain is 10% more fuel efficient than the existing 2.5-litre D4D ‘KD’ diesel unit.

2016 Toyota Innova Crysta Mileage

The new ‘GD’ diesel engine of the Innova Crysta will be 10% more frugal than the existing ‘KD’ engines (2.5-litre 2KD-FTV and 3.0-litre 1KD-FTV). We expect the new Toyota Innova 2016 to return an improved fuel economy of 10kmpl on city roads and around 14kmpl on highways.
